Stephen J. Vanze, AIAStephen Vanze is a founding principal of the architectural firm of Barnes Vanze Architects, in Washington, DC. Prior to the foundation of his firm, he worked in the Washington DC offices of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill and Hartman-Cox Architects. Mr. Vanze served as president of the non-profit Washington Architectural Foundation from 2002 to 2005, and on the executive committee of the Washington, DC Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. He also served as president of the Chapter in 2001. Mr. Vanze is a member of Lambda Alpha, an Honorary Land Use Society, and has served on numerous architectural school design juries in the metropolitan Washington, DC area. His work has received numerous design awards, including the Palladio Award in 2003 and 2005 and the Best in Residential Designs Award of the DC American Institute of Architects in 2004. His work has been featured in Custom Home, Builder Magazine, Fine Homebuilding, Southern Living and A Decade of Art & Architecture 1992-2002 by the Institute of Classical Architecture. Named one of the "15 Top Archictects" by Washingtonian Magazine, Mr. Vanze holds a Bachelor of Arts from Brown University and a Masters of Architecture from the University of Virginia.
