6 December 2004
Dear Mr. Carlstrom:
During its meeting of 18 November 2004, the Commission reviewed the concept
plans for the rehabilitation of Reservation 72, bounded by Massachusetts Avenue,
I, 6th and 5th Streets, NW. The members are very pleased that the Park Service
is collaborating with the Downtown DC Business Improvement District to rehabilitate
these small reservations throughout the downtown portion of the city. The members
approved the concept plan provided the locations of the benches along the internal
walkways are adjusted so that they are arranged in groups, rather than equally
spaced along the walks. Perhaps adding a few additional benches should be considered
to help to create more conversation and gathering areas for the park's
visitors.
Please forward the final construction details for Reservation 72 to the staff
for our delegated review. We look forward to reviewing additional rehabilitation
plans for other reservations in the city in the near future as well. Our next
meeting is scheduled for Tuesday the 25th of January 2005, with a submission
deadline on the 6th of January. As always, the staff is available to assist
you.
Sincerely,
/s/Frederick J. Lindstrom
