Letter
Dear Mr. Russo,
The Commission reviewed the concept design for the new three-building barracks complex on Sheridan Avenue in Fort Myer during their 15 July meeting and approved the submission. We understand that this will be the first phase of a larger new residence complex and that two existing 1960s era residence halls will be demolished to make way for the first three new structures. The members did make a a general suggestion for the design team to study carefully the details and proportions of the adjacent historic residence halls so that they can adjust the corresponding features on the new buildings to enhance and preserve the character of the fort's historic district.
The Commission looks forward to further review of this project as the design develops and suggests that for the next submission additional details and material samples, as well as a landscaping plan, be submitted. As always, the staff is available should you, your staff or the design team require guidance.
Sincerely,
/s/Frederick J. Lindstrom
