Letter
Dear Ms. Trowbridge:
In its meeting of 19 September, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed the concept for signs and wayfinding at the National Museum of the American Indian at 3rd Street and Maryland Avenue, SW. The Commission approved the concept, expressing its appreciation for the Smithsonian's willingness to redirect the project and explore alternative ways to improve orientation around the site. The Commission members emphasized the importance of adhering to a landscape management plan that will avoid compromising the planting design through ad hoc pruning when adding sculpture or opening views.
The Commission looks forward to further review of the sign program design. As always, the staff is available to assist you with the next submission.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
