Letter
Dear Mr. Metzler,
In the last meeting of 16 February, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed and approved the proposed design for the memorial to the World War II Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge to be placed in Section 21 of Arlington National Cemetery. The Commission members were very pleased with the quick response to their request for revised options. They approved the design represented in alternative number two (Alt-2), making the suggestion to increase the vertical dimension of the entablature that rests on the columns and supports the pediment above to balance the visual weight of the pediment and entablature over the central monument panel. This refinement will also help create a more classically proportioned and detailed composition for the memorial as a whole.
The Commission looks forward to the dedication of the memorial, which they think will be a worthy tribute to the men and women who fought in this heroic and pivotal battle of World War II.
Sincerely,
/s/
