Letter
Dear Ms. Nauden:
In its meeting of 16 April, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed the revised concept design by artist Jann Rosen-Queralt for the public artwork and fountain in the new Columbia Heights neighborhood streetscape project at 14th Street and Park Road, NW. Although lacking a quorum, the Commission members present recommended final approval for the submission.
The Commission members expressed appreciation for the response to their concerns raised in the previous review of the project, such as enlarging the medallions to bring the artwork into a scale and boldness commensurate with the streetscape along 14th Street. The Commission members suggested reducing the width of the grout lines to de-emphasize their pattern on the textile images while maintaining the appropriate degree of slip resistance.
As there was not a quorum during the review of the project, this recommendation will be placed on the agenda for confirmation at the Commission's meeting of 21 May. As always, the staff is available to assist you with future submissions.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, AIA
