Letter
Dear Mr. Hanlon:
In its meeting of 15 May, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed the proposed final design for the Chuck Brown Memorial Park at 20th and Franklin Streets, NE. The Commission approved the design of the park and the sculpture with the following comments.
The Commission members expressed appreciation for the coordinated presentation and for the improvements made in response to their previous comments. They supported the change to the sculpture's canopy, which now appears to be integrated into the composition. They questioned the large size of the lettering on the low wall surrounding the sculpture, as depicted in the renderings, and requested clarification of the dimensions in the permit documents. For the design of the park's central space, they recommended a continuous bench as a more elegant form that would also offer some protection for the adjacent plantings.
Please coordinate the submission of revised permit documents with the staff which, as always, is available to assist you.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
