Dear Mr. Peterson:
In its meeting of 16 October, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed alternative designs for a Congressional Gold Medal honoring American fighter aces from the past century of military aviation. The Commission provided the following recommendations.
Noting the importance of including aircraft in the design, the Commission members recommended obverse alternative #1 and reverse alternative #1; they commented that these alternatives include strong diagonal elements that would serve to unify the medal design. They also recommended that the typefaces be coordinated for the selected design pairing.
