Letter
Dear Mr. Dormsjo:
In its meeting of 19 March, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed a revised proposal for accent lighting on the Francis Case Bridge, which crosses the Washington Channel and Maine Avenue, SW. The Commission approved the revised concept design with the following comments and delegated the final review to the staff.
The Commission members expressed appreciation for the responsiveness to their previous guidance, commenting that the project is much improved by the removal of the linear blue light on the north side of the bridge and of the uplighting of the bridge deck. They said that the success of the installation will depend on the ability to control the light intensity in order to create the desired subtle illumination of the bridge piers. The Commission requested that a mockup of the lighting be provided to demonstrate and set the necessary level of illumination.
The Commission looks forward to seeing the completion of this project to beautify the Case Bridge. Please coordinate with the staff for review of the lighting mockup and the final design submission.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
