Letter
Dear Mr. Hawkins:
In its meeting of 18 February, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed a concept design for a new administrative headquarters building for DC Water at the O Street Pumping Station, located at 125 O Street, SE. The Commission approved the concept with the following comments.
The Commission members expressed their appreciation for a presentation that clearly described the design logic used to generate the building’s form, and they commended the emphasis on achieving a high level of environmental performance and energy conservation. For the further development of the design, they encouraged making this new facility and its waterfront grounds as open and inviting as possible. They suggested that the landscape design express and interpret the site’s numerous underground features, which are fundamental components of the city’s stormwater and sanitary sewer infrastructure.
The Commission looks forward to the next review of this project. As always, the staff is available to assist you.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
