The U.S. Commission of Fine Arts is saddened to note the passing of former member John Belle, FAIA. A retired founding partner of Beyer Blinder Belle Architects & Planners, he served on the Commission from 2005 to 2011. Belle was born in Wales and educated in England, and after moving to the United States he started his firm with Richard L. Blinder in New York in 1968. His most notable project was the restoration of Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan; the firm continues to work on some of the most important preservation projects in the country.
