Dear Mr. Cortez:
In its public meeting of 16 November conducted by videoconference, the Commission of Fine Arts approved, based on its prior review of the submission materials, the final design for Phase 2 of the renovations and additions to the Smithsonian Institution Building (the Castle) and its associated landscape; the scope comprises the above-grade elements of the project, including perimeter security and rooftop appurtenances.
The Commission expressed appreciation for the thorough and responsive work of the project team and delegated resolution of the remaining details, such as the material finishes of the expanded areaways, to the staff.
