Diana Balmori

Diana Balmori was a noted author and scholar, landscape and urban designer, and design principal of Balmori Associates in New York City and was recognized for her innovative and sustainable landscape designs.  She studied architecture at the University of Tucumán in Argentina; received a doctorate in urban history from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1973; and later studied landscape design at Radcliffe College.  In addition to her professional practice, Balmori held joint appointments in the School of Architecture and the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies at Yale University.  She was a senior fellow in garden and landscape studies at the Dumbarton Oaks Research Library in Washington, D.C., and was the recipient of numerous honors and awards including grants from both the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities.  From 1981 to 1990, she was a partner in the architectural firm Cesar Pelli & Associates.
