Letter
Dear Mr. Lew:
In its meeting of 18 March, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed and approved the final design of the replacement building for the Howard D. Woodson Senior High School at 5500 Eads Street, NE.
The Commission members repeated their support for the scheme, which they characterized as well organized, and noted the improvements made during the project's development. They expressed appreciation for the changes made in response to their previous comments, making the suggestion that the lawn areas at the front of the school could be more successful if detailed as figures within the plaza, possibly within raised planters. They also emphasized the importance of providing street trees and recommended that the intended provision of trees, particularly along 55th Street, be included in the design.
The Commission looks forward to reviewing future projects for the District of Columbia school system and, as always, the staff is available to assist you with future submissions.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, AIA
