Letter
Dear Ms. Black:
In its meeting of 17 July, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed the concept design for the proposed two-story building for Safeway to replace the existing structure at 1855 Wisconsin Avenue, NW (case number OG 08-205). The Commission adopted the recommendation of the Old Georgetown Board:
No objection to the general concept of the proposed new building in terms of site planning and massing as shown in supplemental drawings dated 19 June 2008. Request submission of detailed drawings of the architectural treatment of the facade, landscape plans, materials, and sign scheme with new concept application for review by the Commission when ready.
In addition, the Commission suggested that the project's great expanse of a flat roof would be ideal for a green roof installation and encouraged the inclusion of this sustainable feature in the design.
Please file the new concept application through the D.C. government. The next Old Georgetown Board meeting is scheduled for 4 September 2008, with a D.C. filing deadline of 14 August.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, AIA
