Letter

Dear Col. Lowery:

In its public meeting of 15 February conducted by videoconference, the Commission of Fine Arts approved, based on its prior review of the submission materials, a revised concept design for two new barracks buildings on Sheridan Avenue at Fort Myer in Arlington, Virginia. The Commission expressed appreciation to the Army for following its guidance to hire an architectural firm that specializes in new buildings in historic settings and commended the project team on the superior design. In its approval action, the Commission reiterated its previous advice to specify authentic materials for the new building instead of imitation products, such as the proposed faux slate roofing.

As always, the staff is available to assist you with the next submission.

Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
