Letter

Dear Mr. Falcicchio:

In its public meeting of 15 October conducted by videoconference, the Commission of Fine Arts approved, based on its prior review of the submission materials, a revised concept design for the landscape and site design for a new six-story office building on the historic St. Elizabeths East Campus, proposed to be located on Parcel 17 at 1201 Alabama Avenue, SE. The Commission members expressed appreciation for the responsiveness to their previous comments. For the development of the landscape design, they recommended making the experience of the park environment as expansive as possible, blurring the transition areas between the park lawn and the surrounding pavement, such as with pavers set in grass, and they encouraged connecting the park landscape to the adjacent urban streetscape.

The Commission looks forward to the review of the final submission for this project, which should include both the building and park designs. Please coordinate with the staff which, as always, is available to assist you.

Sincerely,

/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
