Letter
Dear Ms. Jasper:
In its meeting of 15 May, the Commission of Fine Arts approved the concept design for the District of Columbia's Consolidated Forensic Laboratory to be located at E and 4th Streets, SW. The Commission noted the refined quality of the proposed design and commended the District Government for its initiative to require a high level of energy efficiency for its new buildings. In addition, the Commission members supported efforts of the development team to minimize the perimeter security features surrounding the facility and to incorporate environmentally sensitive landscape features into the surrounding streetscapes. The Commission recommended careful study of the glazing details, including the treatment of clear and fritted glass, as the final design is developed.
The Commission looks forward to the next review of this project. Please submit the final design and construction drawings for the project when ready. As always, the staff is available should additional questions arise.
Sincerely,
Thomas E. Luebke, AIA
