Letter
Dear Mr. Anderson:
In its public meeting of 16 July conducted by videoconference, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed a concept submission for a new recreation center building and landscape improvements for the Congress Heights Recreation Center at 611 Alabama Avenue, SE. The Commission approved the proposal for the building and landscape design, expressing strong support for the site plan’s advantageous relationship to the recently restored streambed along the southern edge of the site. For the further development of the landscape design, the Commission members recommended incorporating additional trees to provide more shade for the playgrounds and to help define the outdoor spaces surrounding the new building, especially at the main entry plaza along the edge of the parking lot.
The Commission commends the development of this project to create a public facility that supports its surrounding community and accentuates the site’s natural resources. As always, the staff is available to assist you with the next submission.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
