Letter
Dear Mr. Myers:
In its public meeting of 16 November conducted by videoconference, the Commission of Fine Arts approved the proposal to install three large sculptures by artist Foon Sham within the rain gardens along 19th Street between K and M Streets, NW. The Commission members expressed strong support for the proposal, commenting that the warm color and expressive shape of the artworks would bring a welcome vitality to this businesslike streetscape. Regarding the proposed material, they supported the use of a marine-grade tropical hardwood from Guyana, provided that this is certified a sustainably harvested wood.
The Commission looks forward to review of future public art proposals. As always, the staff is available to assist you.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
