Letter
Dear Mr. Martin:
In its meeting of 16 April, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed the concept and final design for a new Autonomous System Research Laboratory on the Naval Research Laboratory campus in Southwest Washington. Although lacking a quorum, the Commission members present recommended approval of the project.
The Commission members commented that the proposed design represents an improved use of the site over the existing condition. While they found the proposal acceptable, they also suggested that the design could be more industrial in character to better express the function of the building, and they questioned the red-colored detail above the main entrance.
As there was not a quorum during the review of the project, this recommendation will be placed on the agenda for confirmation at the Commission's meeting of 21 May. As always, the staff is available to assist you with the next submission.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, AIA
