Letter
Dear Mr. Jeppson:
In its meeting of 16 June, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed alternative designs for medals honoring the first and second terms of President Barack Obama. Within the limited range of alternatives presented, the Commission provided the following recommendations.
For the first-term medal, the Commission members recommended the more closely cropped portrait of President Obama as presented in obverse #1, and accepted the single proposal for the reverse. For the second-term medal, the Commission accepted the single proposal for the obverse, and recommended reverse #2 for its superior clarity in placing the subsidiary inscriptions toward the bottom of the design to avoid crowding the depiction of the White House at the top.
As always, the staff is available to assist you with future submissions.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
