Letter
Dear Mr. McGill:
In the meeting of 16 November, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed and approved the final plans for a new business visitors entrance and for the replacement of the two existing employee entrances at the Federal Bureau of Investigation headquarters building at 935 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW.
The Commission members supported the design team's efforts to specify new materials comparable to the building's existing materials. Due to the prominent location of the Pennsylvania Avenue entrance, the Commission recommended that materials at this location be of the highest quality possible, including bronze rather than the proposed bronze-colored aluminum for the storefront facade.
In addition, the Commission encouraged the General Services Administration and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to develop an overall site plan to address the building's perimeter security. This plan should be coordinated with the General Services Administration's larger effort to address perimeter security at government facilities along Pennsylvania Avenue. As always, the Commission staff is available to assist you.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas Luebke, AIA
