Letter
Dear Mr. Albert:
In its meeting of 17 April, the Commission of Fine Arts approved the final design for the Walker Jones School project, including the associated public library and community recreation center. The Commission members reviewed the range of brick colors submitted and recommended that the darkest option be removed from consideration, while allowing the design team to make a final choice for the combination of light- and dark-colored brick from the other samples presented.
The Commission members reiterated their support for the woven texture of the brick walls as shown in the submitted design, commenting that this texture will be essential to the appearance of the building. They also expressed support for the additional brick detailing to create larger patterns in the elevations that was presented as an alternate to the design. In general, the Commission commented favorably on the revised elevations, including the treatment of the entrance canopies.
As always, the staff is available to assist you with future submissions.
Sincerely,
/s/
