Letter
Dear Mr. Brown:
In its meeting of 17 January, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed the design for the renovation and additions to Phelps Career Senior High School, 704 26th Street, NE. The Commission expressed support for the general renovation and reconfiguration of the school building and the placement of the programmatic elements within the structure.
In their discussion, the Commission members supported the creation of the glass-roofed corridor joining the main building to the high-bay structures at the rear of the school. However, they recommended that the entrance at the southern end of the corridor, which is to become the school's new main entry, be given more architectural emphasis; it should have the welcoming appearance of a primary entrance rather than a secondary side door.
With these recommendations, the Commission gave the project concept approval and, in order to assist the project team with meeting the accelerated construction schedule for the facility, delegated final approval to the staff. As always, the staff is available to assist you and the design team with the final submission.
Sincerely,
/s/
