Letter
Dear Mr. Solomon:
In its meeting of 17 May, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed the final design of the new headquarters building for the United States Institute of Peace to be located at Constitution Avenue and 23rd Street, NW. Along with the building, the Commission also reviewed the final design for the site's landscaping, which is to be implemented in two phases. The Commission members commented favorably on the garden-like quality of the landscape while expressing concern about the level of maintenance that will be required to sustain such an intricate landscape design.
The Commission gave final approval to the landscape and the building design, provided that a material sample panel is erected on site for the Commission's review. Please coordinate the review of the material sample panel with the staff and consult with them if there are any changes to the approved design. If you have any questions, the staff is available to assist you.
Sincerely,
/s/
