Dear Mr. Hunter:

In its public meeting of 18 July conducted by videoconference, the Commission of Fine Arts approved, based on its prior review of the submission materials, the final design for the construction of four new buildings and a parking garage for the Fire and Emergency Medical Services fleet maintenance facility and the Office of the State Superintendent of Education, and the associated landscape, at 6 D.C. Village Lane, SW.

In their approval action, the Commission members expressed regret that the project team had not submitted the design for review at the concept level, and they noted that many of the sustainability standards and ecological performance goals established by the D.C. Government were waived for this project. They recommended strongly that the Department of General Services apply these goals consistently to all the projects it manages—regardless of use, location, or administrative entity within the D.C. Government—emphasizing that all building projects bear the responsibility to minimize their impact on the environment.

The staff, as always, is available to assist you with any future submissions.

Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
