Letter
Dear Mr. Peterson:
In its meeting of 18 July, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed the proposed design for a Congressional Gold Medal to honor the victims of the 1963 bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama.
For the obverse, the Commission members recommended alternative #2 due to the simple, strong composition of silhouettes with names that emphasizes the identity of the victims. For the reverse, they recommended alternative #6–A, noting the power of its straightforward text describing the event.
As always, the staff is available to assist you with future submissions.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
