Letter
Dear General Leszczynski:
In its meeting of 18 June, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed and approved the concept design for the proposed additions and alterations to the Honolulu National Memorial in Hawaii at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
The Commission members characterized the proposed design for the new accessibility pathways and lifts as an exemplary solution to a challenging problem; they commented that the two proposed interpretive pavilions would be beautiful and appropriate additions to the existing memorial. The Commission members recommended that particular care be given to the design and placement of new signs for the accessible pathways as the project is further detailed, noting that any sign would need to be sensitively incorporated into the memorial so as not to diminish the dignity of this special place.
The Commission delegated final review of the construction details to the staff, provided there are no major changes to the design as it is further developed. When the construction plans are ready, please submit them for final review. As always, the Commission staff is available to assist you.
Sincerely,
