Dear Mr. Jeppson:
In its meeting of 18 June, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed alternative designs for a Congressional Gold Medal to honor the “Borinqueneers” of the 65th Infantry Regiment. The Commission members recommended obverse alternative #6 and reverse alternative #5, consistent with the preferences of the Mint’s liaison and the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee. They requested that the design of obverse alternative #6 be refined to improve the balance between the size of the lettering and the scale of the soldier’s head in the foreground.
