Letter
Dear Mr. Marootian:
In its meeting of 18 October, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed and approved a concept proposal for interim landscape improvements to 10th Street, SW, between Independence Avenue and the Benjamin Banneker Overlook. The Commission members welcomed the proposal to add trees, shading structures, and seating to improve this currently inhospitable stretch of 10th Street, and they encouraged the future development of a permanent streetscape design that could also incorporate improvements to the drive lanes, sidewalks, and the segment of the street adjacent to the new International Spy Museum.
The Commission looks forward to the implementation of this proposal to improve the important corridor between the Southwest waterfront and the National Mall. Please coordinate the next submission with the staff which, as always, is available to assist you.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
