Letter
Dear Ms. Gibson:
In its public meeting of 19 September conducted by videoconference, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed a single set of design alternatives for a Congressional Gold Medal honoring the code talkers of the Lower Brule Sioux tribe. The Commission members approved the design with a recommendation to unify the medal’s text fonts, expressing a preference for the font used for the obverse inscriptions. However, they questioned the remnant circular background element on the obverse—described as a reference to the full tribal seal proposed for the reverse—and they suggested removing this element, which may not be intelligible in its fragmentary form, in order to simplify the obverse composition.
As always, the staff is available to assist you with future submissions.
Sincerely,
