Letter
Dear Colonel Bruzese:
In its meeting of 19 May, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed a concept design for improvements to the gravesite of Senator Edward Moore Kennedy at Arlington National Cemetery. The Commission commended the simple and dignified design, and approved the concept with the following comments regarding the development of the proposal.
The Commission members expressed support for the arc-shaped walkway between Sheridan Road and the stepped path leading from the gravesite of the Senator's brother, Robert F. Kennedy. However, they noted that the Senator's gravesite, situated along this walkway, does not offer a deliberate place of contemplation apart from the circulation path; they suggested that this issue be studied further in the development of the design.
The Commission looks forward to the final review of the proposal. As always, the staff is available to assist you with the next submission.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
