Letter

Dear Mr. Marootian:

In its meeting of 19 October, the Commission of Fine Arts approved, based on its prior review of the submission materials, the concept design for modifications to the streetscape and intersections of Connecticut Avenue, NW, between Macomb and Porter Streets, and delegated review of the final design to the staff.

The Commission members expressed appreciation for the responsiveness to their comments made during previous reviews. For the development of the project, they recommended that the design and distribution of planters within the streetscape be carefully studied, ensuring that these are sufficiently large for good plant growth and health. They also suggested that the proposed utilitarian truck control structure at the south entrance to the access lane presents an opportunity to be conceived as a public artwork related to the other artwork within the project.

The Commission encourages the design team to continue to consult with the staff in preparing the submission of the final design.

Sincerely,

/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
