Dear Mr. Anderson:
In its public meeting of 20 May conducted by videoconference, the Commission of Fine Arts approved, based on its prior review of the submission materials, the proposed final design for the renovation of and additions to the former Malcolm X Elementary School, located at 1351 Alabama Avenue, SE, for use by the Bard High School Early College program. The Commission supported the choice of either Concept 1 or Concept 3 for the arrangement of the window surrounds, as shown in the submitted materials, and they recommended that the exterior color of the existing penthouse match that of the material proposed for the primary volume of the school.
Please coordinate with the staff for the documentation of the exterior cladding design and of revisions to the penthouse enclosure in order to complete the review. As always, the staff is available to assist you with future submissions.
