Dear Mr. Deatrick:
In the meeting of 20 April, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed the final design for the proposed Starburst Intersection plaza at H and 15th Streets, Maryland and Florida Avenues, and Bladensburg and Benning Roads, NE. The Commission approved the proposal with two recommendations: to simplify the variety of tree species used, and to reconfigure the water slots in each fountain to eliminate the intermediary supports so as to provide a continuous opening for the stream of water. In other respects, the project has been simplified as previously requested by the Commission and will greatly improve the existing conditions of the intersection.
The Commission looks forward to the review of future projects by the District of Columbia Department of Transportation. As always, the Commission staff is available to assist you.
