Letter
Dear Mr. Motl:
In its meeting of 20 September, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed a revised set of alternative designs for a Congressional Gold Medal honoring the Office of Strategic Services (OSS). Consistent with the preferences of the Mint’s Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee and the liaison group for this medal, the OSS Society, the Commission members approved obverse #1 and reverse #3. They recommended that obverse #1 be modified to simplify the silhouette of the parachutist shown within the central “S” of the design, and to provide a more business-like pose for the silhouetted woman at the left of the design. They cited the clarity of the design for reverse #3 in combining the OSS spear-point emblem with encoded text.
The Commission appreciates the responsiveness to the comments made during its previous review. As always, the staff is available to assist you with future submissions.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
