Letter
Dear Mr. McBride:
In its meeting of 21 May, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed and approved the concept design for the installation by artist Jefre Manuel in the south entrance of the Farragut North Metro Station.
The Commission members appreciated the artistic use of novel materials but, due to the use of unconventional technology, they strongly suggested that a mockup be assembled to assess the durability and functionality of the prismatic panels and LEDs. In addition, the Commission members expressed concern about the finish details of the installation—such as metal accents, end returns of the panels, and electrical connections—as these details will be key to the success of the artwork and to ensuring the safety of Metro patrons entering the station.
The Commission looks forward to reviewing a more developed design and to inspecting a mockup of the installation materials if possible. As always, the staff is available to assist you.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, AIA
