Dear Mr. Kayne:
In its meeting of 21 May, the Commission of Fine Arts approved, based on its prior review of the submission materials, the concept design for the modernization and additions to the Bancroft Elementary School, located at 1755 Newton Street, NW. As the project is further developed, the Commission members recommended that the landscape treatment of the narrow edges of the site be carefully considered to ensure that they are occupiable spaces, and they suggested that the proposed woodland garden be extended toward the adjacent wooded parkland.
The Commission looks forward to the review of a more fully developed design. As always, the Commission staff is available to assist you with the next submission.
