Letter
Dear Mr. Moy:
In its meeting of 21 October, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed alternative designs for the Congressional Gold Medal honoring golfer Arnold Palmer.
The Commission supported alternative #1 for the obverse, with the recommendation to eliminate the overlap of Mr. Palmer's clasped hands with the text near the rim of the medal. For the reverse, the Commission supported alternative #4 with the recommendation to simplify the design by eliminating the figural scene at the top of the medal and to recompose the text and golfing symbols within the circle. The Commission also recommended coordination of the typefaces on the recommended obverse and reverse designs.
As always, the staff is available to assist you with future submissions.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, AIA
