Letter
Dear Mr. Peterson:
In its meeting of 22 January, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed alternative designs for a Congressional Gold Medal honoring professional golfer and philanthropist Jack Nicklaus. The Commission's recommendations were as follows.
For the obverse, the Commission members recommended alternative #4 as the best portrait, which is preferred by Mr. Nicklaus; they also supported adding some depiction of a golf course landscape setting as conveyed in obverse alternative #2. For the reverse, they recommended alternative #2, featuring an inscription simply flanked by laurel leaves, as preferred by Mr. Nicklaus. They also requested that the typefaces be coordinated for both sides of the medal.
As always, the staff is available to assist you with future submissions.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
