Letter
Dear Mr. Rich:
In the meeting of 27 July, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed and approved the proposed concept design for the Major League ballpark facility and associated uses at South Capitol Street, N Street, First Street, and Potomac Avenue, SE. The Commission expressed its support for the great effort to create what will be an important and unique venue in the public life of the citizens of Washington.
In their discussions of the proposed stadium facility, the Commission members emphasized the need to balance the project's unique purpose with its role in supporting, and indeed creating, the urban context in this area. They supported the provision of extensive street-level retail activity while recommending that the stadium's singular form be clearly expressed to reflect its special function as a gathering place in the city.
The Commission looks forward to coordinating further review of the proposed ballpark facility. As ever, staff is available should you have any further questions.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas Luebke, AIA
