The Commission regrets that the light fixtures illuminating the facade at the second and third floors were installed prior to review or permit. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for existing light fixtures which are inappropriate to this historic building and do not preserve the character of the historic district. Proposed light fixtures to illuminate upper building facades are not historic features and violate the integrity of the historic building fabric. Existing street lampposts and retail-level lights provide sufficient and historically appropriate illumination; additional upper-story lighting is contrary to sustainable energy use. Existing lights must be removed no later than 31 December 2009 with the brick repaired.
