Recommendation
No objection to issuance of permit for Various exterior alterations at Georgetown University's Gervase Hall, per the supplemental materials received _ October 2026, PROVIDED the applicant confirm the stone thresholds at the first floors on the east elevation would be retained; include the HVAC locations on the site plan, if applicable; complete mortar analyses prior to repointing to confirm the appropriate type is used; complete an on-site mockup with the Old Georgetown Board prior to construction to select the brick type and color, mortar color, zinc roofing panels, and retaining wall and stair stone and caps; confirm that all decking, treads, and risers would be a rot-resistant wood and not a composite; confirm a double lock standing-seam metal roof would be installed on the dormers; study the salvage and reuse of the remaining brownstone remnants for placement in either the retaining wall or walk; and use similar structural metal to patch the fire-escape stair holes, but the pattern can be simplified and does not need to be identical. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DOB technical review, must be resubmitted to the Commission for approval prior to the issuance of a permit.
