Dear Mr. Jacobs:
During its meeting of 17 March 2005, the Commission reviewed and approved the revised concept submission (case number SL 05-043) for a new twelve-story office building to replace the existing four-level parking garage at 51 Louisiana Avenue, NW.
The Commission continues to support the clarity of the design and the strong statement of contemporary design with the inclusion of environmentally conscious features. The revised massing is more appropriate for the site and the potential uses of the building. The new roof design is a more elegant approach for the enclosure of the courtyard and offers a gentler engagement with the historic building.
As the success of this project will rely heavily on the quality of the detailing, the Commission looks forward to further review as the project develops. As always, the staff is available should you require guidance.
