Letter
Dear Ms. O'Neil:
In the meeting of 20 April, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed the concept for a proposed ten-story residence hall to be located on the 2100 block of F Street, NW (SL 06-070). The Commission preferred the alternative proposing multiple brick colors and commented that the potential overuse of precast concrete would cheapen the design. The Commission members suggested a more complex integration of the various brick types to avoid the creation of a strong datum line on the façade. They also requested additional study of the top of the building to relieve the heaviness of the proposed roof and cornice; they also suggested further refinement of the ramp in relation to the main entrance.
Please submit the project for a revised concept review when ready. If you have any questions, the staff is available to assist you.
Sincerely,
Thomas Luebke, AIA
