Dear Mr. Podesta:
In its meeting of 19 April, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed the concept design submitted for the renovation of and addition to the single-family dwelling located at 2438 Belmont Road, NW (case number SL 07-056).
The Commission had no objection to the proposed minor changes to the front of the house and supported the general concept of a rear addition. However, the Commission members recommended that the old and new construction at the rear of the house be more clearly contrasted through architectural expression and choice of materials. They requested further study of the rear addition with particular attention to the proportion, scale, and detailing of the shaft and glass wall elements and asked that a revised concept with more complete documentation be submitted.
The Commission looks forward to further review of this project. As always, the Commission staff is available should you require further guidance.
