Letter
Dear Mr. Seaman:
In its meeting of 18 June, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed and approved the concept design for a new office building to be located at 1000 Maine Avenue, SW, on Parcel 1 of the Southwest Waterfront development area known as The Wharf (case number SL 15-129).
The Commission members commended the project team for the sophisticated concept design, noting particularly the elegance of the proposed curtainwall system with terra-cotta components. For the development of the design, they suggested further study of the proportions of the multi-story curtainwall frame on the north elevation, specifically at the recess above the retail floors, and they agreed that the primary Maine Avenue entrance to the office building would benefit from further development.
The Commission looks forward to the review of the next submission. As always, the staff is available to assist you.
Sincerely,
/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
