Letter

Dear Mr. Franco:

In its public meeting of 19 January conducted by videoconference, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed a concept proposal for a new single-family house located on an unimproved lot at 5906 17th Street, NW (case number SL 23-046). The Commission approved the concept submission and provided the following recommendations for the development of the design.

The Commission members expressed support for the building design and for the intention to protect existing large trees adjacent to the property; they emphasized the importance of the site’s partially wooded character adjacent to Rock Creek Park, a National Park Service property. They acknowledged the careful planning for the design within the constraints of the site, which include the existing trees, the sloping topography, the context of the neighborhood, and the impact on the park.

Please coordinate the next submission with the staff which, as always, is available to assist you with the development of the design.

Sincerely,

/s/Thomas E. Luebke, FAIA
