Recommendation
Recommend AGAINST the issuance of a permit for the installation of six new signs for CareFirst on the north, east, and west facades of an existing building, including four corner signs, a wall sign, and an internally illuminated entry sign, as shown in materials received and dated 14 November 2025. The use of logos and redundant signs at the building corners and entrances result in visual clutter and are not consistent with the character of the building; the size of the proposed signs exceed that permitted under the DC sign regulations for the Shipstead-Luce Act area; and internally illuminated signs are not permitted under the regulations. Forward a new submission for a sign that conforms with the regulations for the Shipstead-Luce Act area and with CFA advice when ready. Staff notes that the permit was issued prior to CFA review due to the federal lapse in appropriations. Refer to DC Historic Preservation Office.
